When you are engaged in legal action with another party you will have to serve them with legal documents such as summonses, complaints, subpoenas, and writs.  These are instrumental in moving your case forward to a successful resolution. If the person you are serving is represented by counsel or is a large reputable business, the process is often straightforward, requiring the document to be delivered to their place of business during normal business hours.  However, if the opposing party is an individual they may be much harder to contact, and may in fact make it difficult if not impossible to serve them through normal means.
